Springer’s Theorem for Tame Quadratic Forms over Henselian Fields

A quadratic form over a Henselian-valued field of arbitrary residue characteristic is tame if it becomes hyperbolic over a tamely ramified extension. The Witt group of tame quadratic forms is shown to be canonically isomorphic to the Witt group of graded quadratic forms over the graded ring associated to the filtration defined by the valuation, hence also isomorphic to a direct sum of copies of...

Regular Elements in Algebraic Groups of Prime Characteristic

A result of Steinberg's on the existence of rational regular unipotent elements in quasi-split simple algebraic groups over fields of arbitrary characteristic is partially extended to the case of non-quasi-split groups.

Reality Properties of Conjugacy Classes in Algebraic Groups

Let G be an algebraic group defined over a field k. We call g ∈ G real if g is conjugate to g−1 and g ∈ G(k) as k-real if g is real in G(k). An element g ∈ G is strongly real if ∃h ∈ G, h2 = 1 (i.e. h is an involution) such that hgh−1 = g−1. Clearly, strongly real elements are real and are product of two involutions. Let G be a connected adjoint semisimple group over a perfect field k, with −1 ...

Elliptic Centralizers in Weyl Groups and Their Coinvariant Representations

The centralizer C(w) of an elliptic element w in a Weyl group has a natural symplectic representation on the group of w-coinvariants in the root lattice. We give the basic properties of this representation, along with applications to p-adic groups—classifying maximal tori and computing inducing data in L-packets—as well as to elucidating the structure of the centralizer C(w) itself. We give the...

Classical wavelet systems over finite fields

This article presents an analytic approach to study admissibility conditions related to classical full wavelet systems over finite fields using tools from computational harmonic analysis and theoretical linear algebra. It is shown that for a large class of non-zero window signals (wavelets), the generated classical full wavelet systems constitute a frame whose canonical dual are classical full ...
